Okay, so I was scrolling through my phone the other day, waiting for my coffee to brew â you know that weird limbo where youâre too tired to do anything but too awake to just stand there? â and I ended up down one of those internet rabbit holes. It started with me looking up the weather (rain, again, shocker) and somehow ended with me staring at photos of this perfectly worn-in leather jacket on some street style blog. My brain went: âI need that vibe in my life.â
Thing is, my closet is⦠a situation. Itâs not a disaster zone, but itâs definitely a âcollection of phases.â Thereâs the minimalist phase (lots of beige, very serious), the prints phase (what was I thinking with those florals?), and the current âI just want to look put-together without trying too hardâ phase. The leather jacket felt like it could bridge a few of those gaps. But where to even start looking without getting overwhelmed or spending a fortune?
This is where my little organizational lifesaver comes in. A while back, a friend whoâs way more into this stuff than I am sent me a link to her Basetao spreadsheet. At first, I was like, âA spreadsheet? For clothes?â I pictured those dry, color-coded budget sheets from work and almost closed the tab. But she promised it wasnât like that. She called it her âstyle mood board, but functional.â
So I opened it. And honestly? Game changer. Itâs not a boring list. Itâs more like a visual scrapbook where you can paste links, pics, prices, and notes. Iâve started my own now, and itâs become this weirdly calming Sunday evening ritual. Iâll sip my tea, browse around, and if I see a cool pair of straight-leg jeans or a specific shade of knit sweater I like, Iâll pop it into my spreadsheet tracker. No pressure to buy anything. Itâs just⦠collecting inspiration in one place so it doesnât vanish into the void of my 50 open browser tabs.
The other week, I was using it to hunt for that perfect jacket. Instead of frantic googling, I just looked at the âOuterwearâ tab Iâd slowly been curating. Iâd saved a few options from different sites weeks apart. Seeing them side-by-side made it so much easier to compare. âOh, this one has better hardware, but that oneâs leather looks softer.â It took the chaos out of it. I finally settled on one last Thursday. It arrived yesterday, and itâs even better in person. Threw it on over my basic grey tee and jeans this morning and felt instantly cooler. Mission accomplished.
Itâs bled into other stuff too. I was looking for new everyday sneakers â nothing fancy, just comfortable and clean. Instead of getting decision fatigue scrolling through endless pages, I checked my Basetao sheet. I had a couple saved from a month ago. One was out of stock now, which was a bummer, but the other was still there, and even on sale. Felt like a little win. Itâs less about the shopping and more about having a personal style archive. It remembers what I liked when my brain forgets.
Anyway, the rain finally stopped for a bit this afternoon. I took a walk just to air out my head and wear the new jacket. Saw a guy with an amazing vintage band tee and made a mental note to maybe look for something similar later. Not in a âI must buy this nowâ way, just a âhuh, thatâs a cool lookâ way. Iâll probably add it to my spreadsheet when I get home, next to the link for those corduroy pants Iâve been eyeing. The kettleâs probably whistling now, so I should go make another cup. The jacketâs hanging on the back of my chair, looking like itâs always been there.
